At just a few weeks old, Ferguson faced challenges no puppy should have to endure. Weighing less than 1.5 pounds and unable to stand or walk, his future was uncertain.
Today, Ferguson is 12 weeks old, weighs an impressive 19 pounds, and is running, playing, eating, growing, and keeping everyone around him on their toes.
His journey has involved dedicated veterinary care, an incredible support team, and a comprehensive wellness routine that has included MagnaWave PEMF from the early days of his recovery.
A Difficult Start for Ferguson
Ferguson’s story was shared with us by Diana Mazenko Silveira, owner of MLS Equine, who became involved in his care during a critical time in his young life.
Ferguson’s mother, Moo, had been rescued while caring for her litter of 13 puppies. Tragically, she became gravely ill with a serious infection and ultimately passed away.
Not long afterward, an abscess was discovered on Ferguson’s left hip.
X-rays showed limited bone formation and raised concerns about the development of his affected limb. At only three weeks old and weighing less than 1.5 pounds, Ferguson was unable to stand or walk. His affected limb was approximately half the size of the other, and he was unable to bear weight on it.
Then, at four weeks old, another abscess developed near his right shoulder and armpit.
The abscess was drained, cultures were sent for analysis, and antibiotics were initiated under veterinary supervision due to concerns about septic arthritis.
Ferguson had a long road ahead of him.

Building a Supportive Wellness Routine
Throughout Ferguson’s veterinary care, Diana incorporated several supportive modalities into his routine.
MagnaWave PEMF sessions were used alongside red light therapy, chiropractic care, nutrition, veterinary treatment, and eventually gentle exercises designed to support his developing body.
PEMF, or Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy, is a non-invasive wellness modality commonly incorporated into animal care and recovery routines. MagnaWave is used by veterinarians, animal professionals, owners, and Certified Practitioners to support overall wellness, relaxation, circulation, and normal muscle function.
For Ferguson, MagnaWave was one piece of a much larger team effort.
And slowly, that little puppy began showing everyone just how determined he was.
From Rear Weakness to Running and Playing
At five weeks old, Ferguson’s second drain was removed.
At six weeks, he was still experiencing weakness in his rear end.
Then came week seven.
Ferguson was walking.
He was running.
And, perhaps most importantly for a growing puppy, he was PLAYING.
The puppy who had been unable to stand just a few weeks earlier was becoming more active and gaining strength as he continued to grow.
Meet Ferguson Today
Now 12 weeks old, Ferguson weighs a whopping 19 pounds.
He runs. He plays. He has an incredible appetite. And he continues to keep his care team smiling.
Ferguson still has what Diana affectionately describes as a little “wonkiness” in his gait, along with some uneven development that his veterinary team will continue to monitor. But none of that is stopping him from getting around and enjoying life as a puppy.
His chiropractor, Nick Sopha, recently told Diana that he was “BLOWN AWAY” by Ferguson’s progress.
Ferguson has even graduated from needing weekly chiropractic visits.
That’s a pretty big accomplishment for a puppy whose future once held so many unknowns.
Recovery Takes a Team
Ferguson’s journey is an important reminder that complex cases rarely come down to one person, treatment, or modality.
His progress cannot be attributed to any single part of his care.
It has taken veterinary intervention, antibiotics, wound care, nutrition, chiropractic care, red light therapy, MagnaWave PEMF, exercise, careful monitoring, and, of course, an incredible amount of dedication from the people surrounding him.
We’re proud that MagnaWave PEMF has been part of Ferguson’s supportive wellness routine from those earliest uncertain days through the active, growing puppy he is today.
Most importantly, Ferguson’s story demonstrates the value of collaboration between veterinary care and supportive wellness modalities when caring for an animal with complex needs.
The People Behind Ferguson’s Journey
A story like Ferguson’s wouldn’t be possible without the people who refused to give up on him.
A huge thank you goes to Diana Mazenko Silveira and MLS Equine for sharing Ferguson’s story and providing him with such dedicated care.
We also want to recognize Dr. Fernando Cruz at Jet’s Pet Hospital for Ferguson’s veterinary care, ICARE Dog Rescue for stepping up to support him, and Nick Sopha for being part of his ongoing wellness journey.
From less than 1.5 pounds and unable to stand to 19 pounds of running, playing, wonderfully wonky puppy, Ferguson has come a long way.
And he’s still just getting started.
Keep going, Ferg. We’re all cheering you on. 💙💛🐾
